This was the first piece I did for Vada, and my first mural. It's a two story stucco Auto Body Shop building blocking the northern sky from view, but as always Vada made the best of a poor situation. She thought a 40 acre Victorian Garden in her backyard would be ideal.
The entrance to Vada's guest house was through Heaven's Gate. This solid, 8 foot high, rough wood door leads to a Tropical Green House style garden with a Jacuzzi and Barbeque. The surface was bumpy but no match for the technique I had acquired from working on stucco.
There are two domes that I have had the pleasure to paint. One is a Cherub filled sky in Vada's bedroom, the other is of Cranes flying amidst a golden sunset in her oriental themed guest bedroom. After painting all that stucco on the outside of the houses the smooth surface was quite a relief.
This piece was done on the door leading to Vada's Home Theatre. She wanted an Art Deco/ Art Nouveaux style Box Office and allowed me a month to work on it. The result is surely the most intricate and well developed of all the pieces in her house.
These are some various photos from the houses, odds and ends that added to the over all scheme. Gold Leaf ceiling and door trim, colorful vent pipes, and lettered bordering are all here.
This pullout special article from The Easy Reader, a local Hermosa Beach Newspaper, was a write up on Vada's houses. Vada always maintained a high degree of privacy behind her security gates and for many this was a first look into the storybook houses they saw evolving daily in their neighborhood.
